Paul Brandley earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Merrimack and his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. With twenty years of law enforcement experience, Paul has worked in the Patrol Division as a uniformed officer, a Patrol Sergeant, and on plainclothes assignments. He has spent thirteen years serving as a SWAT Team Leader and Training Coordinator, and has helped resolve preplanned and spontaneous critical incidents, including barricaded gunmen, hostage situations, crime suppression assignments, and high risk warrant service. In addition, Mr. Brandley helped create statewide mandatory standards for tactical training and safety. Since the implementation of these standards, Paul has served as a POST evaluator, certifying tactical training programs of agencies all over the state.
Additionally, Paul Brandley has served on his agency’s Use of Force Review Committee, and has instructed military personnel and law enforcement officers at the state, local, and federal level in a variety of subjects, including Defensive Tactics, SWAT Tactics, active shooter response, Use of Force, patrol operations, barricaded subject response, firearms, and chemical and less lethal munitions. Currently serving as a Detective Sergeant, Paul has conducted and supervised investigations involving adult and juvenile offenders who have committed a wide array of offenses, including capital offenses such rape, robbery, and murder. Paul also oversaw a gun task force, and conducted investigations of shootings that involved officers.
Paul Brandley completed the Criminalist I and II Course conducted by the University of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island State Crime Lab, as part of his investigatory training. The course itself focuses on crime scene investigation, in particular the collection, preservation, and analysis of evidence.
In addition to his responsibilities as a Detective Sergeant, Brandley also performs as the Vice President of the Rhode Island Tactical Officers Association, and is a member of the RI Criminalist Association, the National Rifle Association, the Florida SWAT Association, the FBI National Academy Associates, and the National Tactical Officers Association. He has also served on personal protection details for celebrities, and his work has been published in a wide variety of law enforcement-related periodicals.
