Pioneer Winter Plus
Miami, FL | Born: 12/08/1987 | Lives and works in Miami
Pioneer Winter, a Miami native, holds a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters in Public Health and Epidemiology. He has created work for the Int’l Fringe Arts Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, Museum of Contemporary Art, Little Haiti Cultural Center, Adrienne Arsht Center, Miami Beach Convention Center, Bass Museum of Art, and Art Wynwood. FL Dance Masters accredited and Certified in Autism Movement Therapy, Pioneer began dancing with Edwin and Gaile Holland, later coached by Michael Langlois and additional training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA). Pioneer has worked with Jubilee Dance Theatre, Dance Now! Miami, Next Step Dance, Brazz Dance Theater, Ballet Etoile and has performed on tour in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain and Mexico City.
Pioneer’s projects find their niche in the portability of the messages and how themes discussed maintain significance and identification within current social climate. His work includes, Reaching the Surface, an evening-length work reducing HIV/AIDS stigma with artists either infected or affected by HIV; Phallussy in the Arsht Center’s Miami Made Weekend; 42: A Stonewall Prospective presented at the Bass Museum of Art; Mother-Son(days) in Open Stage Miami; and Ebb/Flow at the Deering Estate. Pioneer also works in film; he believes that a multichanneled introduction of medium to the audience fosters greater absorption. This contributes to the community at-large, rather than relying on an already-knowledgeable arts community. Most recently, Pioneer was accepted into LegalArt’s 2012-2013 residency program for Miami artists. [pioneerwinter.org]
