What motivates this revolution, you ask? Our play equipment movement seeks to break down the barriers, concepts, and dated-industry ways that otherwise prevent our clients and the end users of our play equipment from exploring and enjoying the exciting and rewarding world that is the new play industry as defined by Miracle Playsystems. Kit Steven, the president of Miracle PlaySystems and the host of PlaySystems TV – both based in the Bay Area – has brought his unconventional, forward thinking take on play equipment and Playscapes and attracted the industry’s most forward thinking Landscape Architecture firms and a highly engaged client group of Park & Rec and School District officials that want the best product and the best service, with every purchase. This is not your typical play equipment expert.
Kit’s roots in the play equipment industry come honestly – he started a play equipment installation company in N. CA which he ran and operated for 3 years before getting into the equipment sales and design side. Learning the way products were assembled, Kit began learning about the sales and design side of the business and realized the best selling equipment often had the best look to them while offering the children the most play value. By familiarizing himself with the installation side of the business, Kit was able to detect the ins and outs of the business that an ordinary salesman wouldn’t recognize with the products they sell.
With a wealth of knowledge and an entrepreneurial spirit, Kit purchased the sales company in 2007 and has spent the last two years rebranding dated 30-year old distribution business as Miracle PlaySystems and establishing himself as a respected expert. He oversaw every Playscape design that left the office. Clients depended on Kit for his advice, direction and product knowledge and within a 2 year time period, Miracle PlaySystems doubled in size – mostly due to his dramatic focus on catering to the needs of Landscape Architects.
But Kit’s career took a new turn with the advent of his focus on catering to Landscape Architects needs. Kit’s goals are pretty simple: “I want Landscape Architects to have access to the most unique Playscape designs. How can you design the best play area if you are using dated designs? Second, I want my public clients to have easy access to cost effective equipment with the best customer service. Period. If a specific piece of play equipment appeals to you and your needs, then it’s a good choice.”
It always troubled Kit to observe the dated play-industries unwillingness to educate their consumers with the newest play designs and industries new direction, and inability to grant access the most forward thinking designs available today. Perhaps it was that there was never a way to access the most current design options… until now. Miracle PlaySystems new “Design Library” has reinvented the concept of Playscape design for a new generation of Landscape Architects and Public clients. In addition to offering and encouraging straightforward and traditional play design options, the Design Library provides access to the most current play designs – all available on their website.
They have also set out to educate and de-mystify how to get the most play equipment for your money, how to purchase off of state contracts, how to design spray parks, and more – all ongoing themes of Kit’s weekly PlaySystems TV show. Specific episode topics have included CMAS purchasing 101, how to save 20 hours on your next design project, the way to design a spray park (beware of poorly designed treated water systems!), and how to plan a successful community build, to name a few.
Miracle PlaySystems TV has blossomed into a full-fledged community. The viewers convene on their active blog.
