The International Rameau Ensemble was founded in 2013 to promote the works of Jean-Philippe Rameau in the run up to 2014; which is the 250th anniversary of his death. We are an international group in that our players and singers were born in many different countries but we also have an ambitious vision to make the music of Rameau famous across the globe after its neglect over three centuries. We share a passion for his extraordinary work and led by academic research we hope to become the UK’s leading centre for historically informed performance and modern era premieres of Rameau works. Our inaugural concert of opera scenes in autumn 2013 entitled ‘Amour’ was a great success and showed us how this music touches both seasoned fans and newcomers alike across all age groups. Future plans for 2014 include a concert tour of 3 motets in the spring and a staged operatic double-bill of Pigmalion and Anacreon in the autumn.
