Randy Ang
Randy Ang is the founder of multi-disciplinary creative agency Bettermen Asia.
Earlier in his career he founded Originasian Pictures focusing on feature film productions and served as the executive producer and art director of the cult independent feature film ‘Becoming Royston (2007)’ and the producer and marketing/creative director of feature film ‘The Days (2008)’. In 2006, recognising the immense potential of online communities, Originasian Pictures created Sinema.SG - a resource and news webzine on all things related to Singapore films. In December 2007, he co-founded Sinema Old School - an independent cinema dedicated to Singapore films and located in the heart of the Old School creative enclave.
Prior to filmmaking he was the creative director of Caffeine Creative - a design agency.
His belief in the power of imagery and the influence it has on society and its people, has seen him assembling teams of photographers and designers to collaborate on projects for various non-profit organisations like the Singapore Disability Sports Council, the Association for Persons with Special Needs and Mercy Relief.
A graduate from Temasek Design School’s Visual Communication programme, majoring in graphic and advertising; Randy was awarded with the Medallion of Design Excellence and the Overall Best Design Award for his graduating project. Other accolades include awards in the Singapore Design Awards, Creative Circle Awards and the Conqueror Awards. In 2007, he became an Apple Pro.
A regular speaker and presenter, he also sits in the industry focus committee with his alma-mater, Temasek Design School and is a panel member of the Design Singapore Council International Design Advisory Forum amongst others.
He has produced and directed for television, including travel series “Scene City: Singapore”. The strong viewership of this series led to it being one of the first television series from Channel NewsAsia to be distributed on DVD. “Scene City: Singapore” won a Bronze World Medal in New York Festivals in 2010.
He has also directed new television commercial and music video for the LoveLife charity project in Taiwan featuring artiste Jay Chou, A-Mei, Barbie Hsu, Dee Hsu, Lin Chi-ling and many other renown Taiwanese artistes. In 2010, he was commissioned to direct and produce 2 short documentaries for the Shanghai World Expo, profiling top Singapore actress Yeo Yann Yann and Jamie Michael, lead singer of a music band Leeson. In 2011, he directed a musical tele-feature “Christina and The RunAways” for Okto and travel series “Making It Abroad” featuring recording artiste Olivia Ong and one of Singapore most prolific photographer John Clang.
In Monocle Magazine’s Singapore National Survey list of top Directors/Producers, his company was been named number one.
