Romain Kronenberg

Romain Kronenberg

Joined / Paris

Born in 1975. Romain Kronenberg started his work in 2005 through a series of musical performances, with electric guitar composition imagined for sunset and video (Fondation Cartier and Palais de Tokyo, Paris). From now on, his work evolves around video and sound, in a hypnotic and melancholic style. The music he composes holds an essential place in his video work. Indeed, Romain was first a composer of electro-acoustic music formed at Ircam after studies of theology and music in Geneva. He also collaborated with artists such as Ugo Rondinone, Pierre Huyghe, Melik Ohanian and Ange Leccia on musical scenographies. His music creates a meditative and introspective atmosphere that evokes loneliness and communication attempts. Romain was an artist in residency at Villa Kujoyama, Kyoto, in 2009 where he lived during 7 months. In Japan, he created an movie with no image, kind of contemporary Western : blue blue electric blue commissioned by french Center for Visual Arts. It’s also in Japan that Romain imagined Down down down down, a climatic and musical movie with the actress Audrey Bonnet shot in the summer of 2010. In 2011, he travels across Turkey from Istanbul to Diyarbakir for the road movie My empire of dirt.
