Robert Christian Malmberg Plus
Robert Christian Malmberg's Collodion/ Alternative process studio's located in San Francisco and New York City host his unique inclinations and passion for fine photography and film making. Robert can be found constructing gallery projects, preparing glass plates with exotic chemistry, and taking commissioned portraits with large format time period cameras. Robert's distinctive approach in blending old world technology with contemporary subject matter creates a perfect palette for both commercial clients looking to integrate high art with creative advertising, and for those who are looking to supplement their private collections.
Born in Florida and raised in Kentucky, RCM purchased his first 35mm camera in 2001 and began compiling photographic records of his travel adventures, a passion which he later parlayed into studio art photography. In 2003, Robert enrolled in the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California with a focus on the commercial trade. Upon his graduation from the program, Robert moved to New York City where he was presented with the opportunity to work with some of the top names in the fashion industry as an assistant photographer and where he also exercised his skills as an expert lighting designer. It was during this time that RCM developed a fascination with the Wet Plate Collodion Era process and various alternative mediums. Soon after, in conjunction with his career in fashion advertising, Robert opened a Collodion Studio in Brooklyn's hip Greenpoint/Williamsburg neighborhood and began working on private commissions and editorial.
Robert works with high end digital cameras, large and extra large format Collodion cameras, Polaroid, Super 8mm, and Medium format cameras and tends to use little Photoshop or image altering programs on his imagery due to his purist methodology; his work has become widely recognized due to slight , random 'imperfections' associated with alternative mediums retaining an old-world ambiance and atmosphere.
Robert debuted his work to an adoring public and since his work has been featured in Daily Candy, NYC (winning their "Best of 2009 NYC" award), TOKION Magazine, and numerous online publications.
