  MIA is an artist. she did a bunch of spraypaint stencil art for a book. the idea for the video was to take her art and animate it behind her performance. but for the video we hand stenciled and sprayed and scanned over 200 stencils. me and maya and the animators all worked together makign the background art.

  yeah, the rappers were supposed to be in the video and then cancelled at last minute, so i had to quickly figure out how to make a rap video with no rappers... hence the costumes. we had about 16 breakdancers (who all worked for free and who i found on craigslist) switching in and out of the costumes. sometimes when life gives you lemons, you make a music video with a breakdancing shark.
