Rudi Smit started dancing at the age of 9 and is now 18. His passion for Hip Hop has grown eversince and he has made a remarkable name for himself in the South African industry by regularly competing at/performing at/choreographing local competitions, international competitions, large corporate events, productions, getting involved with community outreach programs, professional showcases and fundraisers for companies such as the Cape Town City Ballet. His efforts as a solo dancer have earned him numerous titles at competitions such as the SADTA hip hop championships, TDA Eisteddfod Hip Hop championships, dance competitions hosted by the Heal the hood project and many other local competitions.
In 2008, he was also selected as one of 20 crew members to form part of a production called the Temple of Hip Hop, by well know LA based choreographer, Kumari Suraj.
Internationally, his crew 'Untamed' qualified for Hip Hop world championships in 2009 and 2010. They took first place in SA in the Varsity division both years, whereafter they went to Las Vegas to compete at this prestigeous event. They achieved a 13th spot out of 41 crews that competed in their section in 2009 and a 21st spot out of 36 crews in 2010. They were the highest ranked South African team both years. Untamed is now an adult crew and will be accompanied by a new Varsity crew called Primitive in 2011.
Untamed was nominated for 'crew of the year' in South African hip hop magazine, Hype, aswell as one of the top 10 crews in SA by Strictly Hip Hop.
Apart from this, Rudi has been to Hollywood, Los Angeles twice where he participated in the Monsters of Hip Hop Summer Intensive program and trained with well know LA and New York City based choreographers such as Luam, Tony Czar, Matt Cady of Fanny Pak, Tabitha and Napoleon, Shane Sparks, Tucker Barkley, David Moore, Lisette Bustamante and many more.
Rudi has also taught at Pineapple studios in London aswell as The Garage in Norwhich in the UK.
Furthermore, Rudi has been responsible for choreographing/co-choreographing a number of crews that have participated internationally with the biggest achievement amongst these being a small group called "HitSquad" that took 5th place out of 68 crews worldwide at the IDO Hip Hop World Championships, Germany, 2008.
