Ruomi Lee Hampel began filming his jazz musician parents' performances on Betacam when he was eight years old.
However, Mr Lee-Hampel focused much of his formative years on stage. He studied and performed at HB studios, Theatre For The New City, and Laguardia HS of Performing Arts where he received a merited drama diploma. After transferring from NYU he received a BA in theatre from Hunter College. One winter Mr Lee-Hampel toured with a German dance company filming performances and editing the contemporary dance shows for various websites. He returned to Hunter to run their Film & Media Society as he received a BA in Film.
Mr Lee-Hampel worked in Hunter's Film & Media Department producing diverse film related events. This included the Avignon Film Festival, The Annual Hunter Student Film Festival, and Moving Images: a live dance and live film infusion. He also curated programs at Anthology Archives, Pioneer Theatre, and the Museum of Natural History incorporating the films of local NY Filmmakers and Hunter students.
Ruomi Lee-Hampel, a member of the Screen Actor's Guild, won the National Foundation of the Arts Award, appeared in off Broadway plays (La MaMa & Symphony Space), and was cast in short and feature films. He has performed spoken word and dance throughout Europe with Gunter Hampel's Dance and Jazz troupe: Next Generation.
Ruomi Lee-Hampel has written, directed, produced and shot several short films. Two of which have won the Visionary Filmmaker Award at the Vision Festival (2002 & 2010). Another highlight includes acceptance into the Tribeca Institute, where under the tutelage of Abbas Kirostami and Martin Scorsese Mr Lee-Hampel's films were screened as part of the Marrakech 2005 and Tribeca 2006 film festivals.
Ruomi Lee-Hampel taught trampoline and introduction to gymnastics (1996-2000) at Life Sport Gym. Mr. Lee-Hampel also worked as the videographer for the night club Pacha New York (2006-2008). In 2011, Ruomi was thrilled to teach Video Technique at the Young Player's Theatre. He is currently in pre production for a new dance film with Jason Jordan.
