Saba Hasan, a prominent contemporary artist, has been making significant contributions in the realm of abstract art both in technique and concepts in over18 years of practice. She has been awarded the National Raza Award for painting and international fellowships in art and culture from Syracuse University, Ecole D’Arts Visuels, Lausanne, the French Cultural Ministry, the George Keyt Art Foundation and the Oscar Kokoschka Academy in Austria.
As an artist and anthropologist, Saba is acutely aware of the interplay of cultural and political factors in contemporary art. She has successfully developed her own visual alphabet across media using non-traditional materials like, plaster, books, sand, leaves, nails and text/sound and video to create works which are imbued with restrained undertones and multiple meanings.
Saba’s current work is looking for space more and more in the conceptual realm, predicated on philosophical and socio political questions. She is currently working on her sound installations, video poems
and micro films from retrieved handy-cam footage.
