Sandra Salter graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1996 and has been working in animation ever since, making short films for Channel4, animating for children's TV, commercials, Bafta Nomination in 2002 and a British Animation Award in 2008. Now with Salty's Animation Co. she and partner Jim (Ex Saatchi & Saatchi designer) are hoping to nurture an enclave of animation in Ludlow, South Shropshire.
Salty's Animation Co. whilst continuing to make short films and do commercial work, wants to share it's passion and knowledge for animation on a local level. We are interested to discuss ways animation can be used to engage, inspire, communicate or simply entertain – that is through community film making, workshops, mentoring, and maybe one day apprenticeships.
Eye-catching animation can engage an audience - very quickly conveying an idea – making it a powerful medium of communication. We have the knowledge and skills to achieve this and we think they are easily learnt too. We have just made a short film with a poet for Channel4; we have made flu jab adverts for the Scottish Government and continue to provide them with illustrations each year for their campaign; we have made work for Amnesty International - viral films to help raise awareness of human rights injustices; we have made a patient safety film for the NHS, worked with a occupational therapist to create a DVD, film and workbook to help a youth offending team discuss anger issues.
If you think animation could help your group or class, engage with ideas, learn new skills, bring stories to life, or make hard information somewhat more palatable – we would love to talk about how we could work together.
