sarah goetz is an artist striving to grow a language of spatial desires through sculptural installation, moving-image, and drawing/painting. Two spatial desires that she deals with are open spaces of potential and close (not closed) spaces of intimacy. After personal experiences with both agoraphobia and claustrophobia, sarah began to examine how physiological reactions to open & close space are connected to psychological desires for safety & freedom. sarah questions the conditions for human change over time through her exploration of how humans inhabit and desire open & close spaces. sarah has lived in both open & close landscapes; growing up under empty skies of Oklahoma and living among the dense foliage of North Carolina.
