My name is Sara Mapes and I am an animation student at The Cleveland Institute of Art currently working on my senior thesis, ”The Mask Maker”. Animation is my passion, and I plan to make a career as an animator once I graduate in the Spring of 2014.
When I was younger one of my favorite things to do was sit down and put together a puzzle. Animation is a lot like putting a really intricate puzzle together which is why I think I chose to major in it rather than illustration or drawing. I enjoy trying to figure out how all the moving parts fit together, and become a whole. I work both traditionally and digitally. Through school I’ve had an evenly balanced education in 2D animation, and 3D animation, but I prefer working in 2D to animate. Without a solid bases of 2D animation one could never hope to animate properly in 3D, and I have complete respect for those who animate frame by frame with good old paper and pencil.
