Sguardi Altrove is a non-profit cultural association founded in 1993 by Gabriella Guzzi and a group of women with a passion for cinema, with the aim of finding and promoting films and videos made by women. The association organises Sguardi Altrove International Women’s Film Festival, as well as many other cultural events that promote female creativity in all artistic fields. The festival’s aim is to encourage a reflection on the role of women in the film industry, as well as on topics relevant to women, articulated in their specific cultural, political and social context. Sguardi Altrove has always been exploring work from different countries and cultures, promoting in particular the circulation of films that are less likely to have access to commercial venues. The festival has succeeded over the years in winning over a diverse public as well as the national and international press, gradually becoming one of the most important cultural events in the city of Milan, thanks not only to the high quality of films selected but also to the broadening of the festival, to include a host of parallel events such as photographic exhibitions, installations, live performances and much more.
