Anton, is your Illustrator file broken into different layers or is it just a single layer? To keep it vector you click on an icon that looks like a little sun in the timeline view right next to the motion blur and track matte boxes. If you don't see it you might need to right click on the timeline and select the "Switches" mode. It's called the Continuously Rasterize button.
