The Solar Pavilion, by leading Scottish artist Karen Forbes, has been commissioned by Edinburgh Art Festival 2011 and supported by the Scottish Government Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund. The artwork is situated within Edinburgh's St Andrews Square and will be open to the public from the 4th August.
The Solar Pavilion draws time in light, creating a parallel line to the Melville Monument's circling shadow. It is an architectural twinned system, moving continuously through the horizontal and vertical axii, driven by the sun. This unique and graceful structure is not only a stunning example of public art, but acts as a dynamic space to showcase the latest in creativity and innovation in Scottish and international art for the Edinburgh Festival.
