Sophia B Liu
I am a PhD Candidate at University of Colorado at Boulder in an interdisciplinary program called Technology, Media and Society in the ATLAS Institute. I have been conducting research on the use of social technologies (e.g., social networking sites, open source platforms, SMS txt messaging, media sharing repositories, wikis) during recent crises. My work mainly focuses on how people are using these social technologies to share stories in a way that engages social action and informs new kinds of heritage values and practices. My research is technology design-oriented exploring how we might design future social technologies to facilitate what I term "grassroots heritage," the people's legacy. Specifically, I am exploring the concept of collective curation or socially distributed curation in terms of how members of the public collectively aggregate, filter, preserve, remix, and share memories, stories and events back to the public to derive meaning from historical events so that we can strengthen our resilience to future crises.
