In 2004, Spenser Simrill, Jr. received his doctorate in English from the University of Georgia. He has taught for UGA Cortona, Italy, and for UGA Costa Rica, developing courses in creative writing and documentary filmmaking. He has made documentaries for of Montreal, the city of Cortona, and the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota. He has published on African American literature and is currently working on a manuscript on Brer Rabbit, Joel Chandler Harris and Walt Disney’s Song of the South. The Players’ Picnic, the old school R&B show which he created twelve years ago, still plays Saturdays, 2-4, on 90.5 FM.
