STC.UNM (STC) is a nonprofit corporation formed and owned entirely by the University of New Mexico Board of Regents (UNM). We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with an independent board of directors. Located on UNM's south campus at the Science & Technology Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, STC has proximity to research and development and laboratory facilities and other technology based companies, many of which are the creation of STC. STC also collaborates with researchers at New Mexico's two national labs—Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory—located nearby.
The mission of STC is to support UNM and its partners as the source of innovation management and commercial development. Our vision is to play a vital role in New Mexico's economic development and to be an innovator in technology commercialization worldwide. As the technology-transfer arm for UNM, STC does this by
1. protecting technologies developed at UNM—its intellectual property—through patents and copyrights and transferring these technologies to the commercial marketplace;
2. connecting the business community (companies, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists) to technologies developed at UNM for licensing opportunities and the creation of start-up companies; and
3. assisting companies and organizations that wish to access facilities, expertise, and research conducted at UNM. As STC has evolved, the corporation has come to support not only UNM faculty, but students, outside inventors, and entrepreneurs as well.
STC's dedicated staff is business oriented. Our full-time job is to understand the potential market applications of the wide range of technologies developed at UNM and to efficiently get them to companies that can commercialize them. STC is committed to securing the best match between a technology and the market.
