Steve May is an animation director & freelance illustrator based in London (UK).
He was born in sunny Hastings & spent his childhood drawing lots of things & discovering interesting ways of injuring himself.
After studying Fine Art painting & film-making in Nottingham Steve completed an MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art & currently works as a successful London based freelance illustrator & animation director.
As an animation director he has directed several short films including the award winning ‘Gut’ & 'X&Y' which was picked for the 2008 British Animation Awards, & 'Rabbits' & 'Anger' which won the Association of Illustrators Gold New Media award in 2010 & 2012 respectively. He has worked widely in TV & commercials including designing & directing ‘Spacehopper Man’ for the acclaimed cult BBC series ‘Monkeydust’ He is currently represented by Picasso Pictures, London (picassopictures.com)
As an illustrator Steve has worked widely in editorial, childrens publishing & advertising for clients including The Guardian, Harper Collins, Penguin Books, Nokia, Marks & Spencer & BP. He is currently represented by Arena Illustration (arenaillustration.com)
He still draws lots but injures himself less regularly these days.
