Stoecker Ecological is a consulting business with a passion for reviving damaged rivers and ecosystems. Matt Stoecker is owner and biologist pursuing ecosystem studies, restoration and advocacy. Stoecker Ecological has spearheaded the removal of over 3 dozen dams and other migration barriers to reconnect and improve habitat for wild steelhead and salmon.
Along with project partners, Stoecker Ecological received the 2009 Riparian Challenge Award from the American Fisheries Society, for the removal of steelhead migration barriers and restoration efforts on Carpinteria Creek.
Matt is also a photographer and writer whose work has appeared in films and publications focusing on the preservation of our natural heritage. Matt and Patagonia's founder Yvon Chouinard hatched the idea for the film DamNation at the 2011 Wild and Scenic Film Festival and are currently producing the film with Felt Soul Media and Brick and Mortar Productions.
