Born in 1968 in Quito, Ecuador.

Giovanny Páez he has maintained his fascination with the human body and anatomy, which is a recurring theme in his work. He deals with biology, sexuality, history, mythology, sports and medicine, but especially in the construction of discourses about power and control.
It is difficult to categorize his work, it has too many layers. As an artist and curator, he regards his artistic postmodern way of working as influenced by the French philosophers Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze. He considers his notion of multiplicity characteristic for his work and therefore thinks it can´t be explained unambiguously.
From 2006 to 2013 Giovanny created his true masterpiece, the "DERPODER´S PROJECT” cycle, comprising a feature film structured in four performances, actions and many other related works, such as sculptures, drawings and photographs. During the eight years he was being created, DERPODER toured several places and was shown in exhibitions and galleries, international film festivals and the Art as Gender project in Barcelona.
Giovanny has kept expanding his extraordinary world by developing new narratives and symbols and creating a unique body of work. In his work combines installations, sculptures, drawings and video performances.
At first, he wanted to be an actor but then quickly turned to art. In 2002, Giovanni moved to Lexington, Kentucky invited as a visiting artist and teacher for three universities and later moved to New York, USA. In 2003 he moved to Europe where he still lives and works today.
Giovanny has been awarded with prizes in his native Ecuador country and international awards (among others).
