Stephanie Williams, Juris Doctor (J.D.), graduated from the University of Miami School of Law with honors. She is an international human rights law advocate and independent/ freelance consultant. She has been politically active and working in the field of human rights since 1992. She primarily works with human rights advocates, non-profit organizations, international governmental organizations (IGOs), nongovernmental organization (NGOs), and humanitarian think tanks that are committed to identifying, researching, tracking, assessing and eliminating human rights abuses. In addition to her published works, Stephanie authors, co-authors and edits legal and political articles. She is an expert on female genital mutilation (FGM), violence against women and children, human trafficking/slave trade, Middle East and African politics, civil rights history and law, strategic nonviolent conflict, international judiciary systems, and global human rights institutions. She has advanced knowledge and experience in criminal, national security, death penalty, public interest, family, and appellate law.
Stephanie Williams is also the co-founder of a local non-profit fundraiser: Food for Life Network (FFLN) AIDS Marathon/Half-Marathon (www.fflnmarathon.org), which benefits Food for Life Network, Inc.
Food for Life Network, Inc. is a 501[c](3) non-profit organization that provides groceries, meals and nutritional education to eliminate malnutrition and starvation in men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in South Florida. We are committed to delivering services with compassion and confidentiality, to fostering clients’ dignity and independence, and to enhancing clients’ quality of life. Since 1987, Food for Life Network, Inc. staff and its volunteers have provided over 1.5 million meals and groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS at no cost to their clients. FFLN is a part of Community AIDS Resource, Inc. (aka “Care Resource”).
The FFLN AIDS Marathon is hosted annually by ING Miami Marathon. This year the marathon is on January 31, 2010. Our goal is to raise $50,000. FFLN AIDS Marathon donates 100% of the funds raised to FFLN, Inc., which allocates 86% to client services. All contributions are tax deductible.
Stephanie is also a regular panelist on UPDATE w/ Doris Moore Bailey and Kimberley Crouch at WLKF AM 1430 (Lakeland, Florida). UPDATE is a live, hour-long progressive news magazine radio broadcast that covers a gamut of hot topics and issues facing the African-American community and our nation. The show airs every Sunday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and streams live at: lakeland.net\updateshow or wlkf.com/client-data/shows/update.aspx. Listeners are encouraged to call in during the show and join the discussion: 863-682-1430.
She is an avid reader, writer and social networker. She is also a poet, working on her second book of poetry, Sex will be Sweeter for my Daughter.
