ABOUT GENDER TENDER
Syniva Whitney and Will Courtney are the co-founders of GENDER TENDER, a performance project that began out of the desire to make work in a safe and rigorous environment for trans*, queer*, questioning and allied artists of all kinds. GT brings many different elements together from the worlds of dance, activism, acting, burlesque, writing, music and visual art. FOUNDED 2012.
GT has performed at Mo’-Wave: Seattle’s Queer arts and Music Festival (a part of an eve of dance curated by Andrew Bartee). They have also been featured at 12 Minutes Max at On the Boards, Trans*Mission at Gender Odyssey, at the Satori Group in Neil Ferron’s event Hotel Party Vol 1 and Vol 2 as well as a part of Alice Gosti’s durational series at «PLAY» and her project Modern Dance Behind the Pink Door all in Seattle, WA in. Syn and Will shared a duet at A Curious Noise, an evening of queer art curated by the band Golden Space at Vermillion Art Gallery and completed a two month residency at Project: Space Available in the winter of 2012 (P:SA is a performance art and installation residency in Seattle). They were a part of the NEPO 5k and premiered their first evening length work HEELS and FLATS at the 2013 Seattle Fringe Festival in September. Will and Syn premiered the duet Go/Long at the 2013 Next Fest NW:TOUCH at Velocity Dance Center and the GT crew premiered the new evening length work Sync or Swim at Gay City Arts. They also debuted a new duet as a part of the line up for Trigger.New.Dance.Happenings curated by Molly Sides at LoveCityLove. More to Come.
