Every great American ballpark has a beginning. In a game where the field means everything, brick, mortar, and steel transform dreams into reality. Magnificent architectural feats welcome America’s ballplayers, and lush fields lure fans of all ages to root for their home team. Indianapolis’ rich history is no stranger to iconic stadiums. On September 5, 1931, Indianapolis Indians owner Norman Perry propelled his dreams into reality as he welcomed spectators to one of the finest ballparks in the world. Perry’s efforts to construct the stadium helped recognize his fallen brother, Jim, who died in a plane crash on June 26, 1929, near Fort Benjamin Harrison.
