        I met my wife at a beer tasting on the roof top of Austin's Maggie Mae's back in 1993. That was my first real exposure to craft beer, and I was an immediate convert. Texas had just legalized brewpubs, Pierre Celis was opening his new brewery, and craft beer was growing into a booming industry. Austin was a groovy place to be a beer lover. But it was an industry that got ahead of itself, and by the early 2000's, most of the breweries that had burst onto the scene were shut down. Years later, a new generation of brewers is emerging; and, with a consumer trend toward buying local and buying quality, Austin craft beer is once again on the rise. The Texas capital suddenly finds itself one of the fastest growing craft beer cities in America. But these newcomers face their own hurdles. Increasing competition, archaic Texas beer laws, and plain old growing pains challenge these brewing businesses as they attempt to turn Austin, Texas into the next craft beer destination.
