I was introduced to this book by Bob Salomon and immediately fell in love with it both from a baseball and kids perspective as well as from the paying it forward idea. I knew I wanted to do something video related right off the bat so I sought out and received permission from the authors and publishing company to be create a video version of the book. I requested pdfs of each and every page to be sent to me that I would incorporate into the sequence. From there, I found and hired talent to voice the different character's dialogue, directed and recorded their audio, recorded various sound effects and edited them all into the sequence. The one thing I didn't have was the right music. After hearing Bernie Williams' instrumental rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", I knew I had to have it for the video. Not only is it the perfect song and performed so well, but it's also the fact that it's Bernie playing*. (*In case you don't know who Bernie Williams is, he played Center Field for the Yankees from 1991-2006. He's also my favorite Yankee.) Acquiring the rights to a piece of music is not easy, especially considering I did not have the money to purchase the rights, but I was able to connect with Bernie's agent who then helped me to get into contact with the publisher of the CD. After numerous weeks of conversations they all agreed that it was ok for me to use the song. What you see here is the culmination of 4 months of effort that I didn't get paid a dime for and it was totally worth it!
