This is an eight-screen video installation that explores five distinct ways heritage is transmitted to family and community—a dancer preserves a tradition almost obliterated; two brothers share the flavors of cherished family recipes; a Holocaust survivor commemorates the death of her parents; a suburban man remembers his grandfather while fishing; and a band of rockers forges new ground. Produced for the Skirball Cultural Center and directed by Ladan Yalzadeh and Ann Kaneko. TRT: 14:35.

After visiting the Angkor temples, other things we did in Siem Reap, Cambodia, as part of the AMA Waterways tour: We enjoyed the facilities at the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Resort (including a Cambodian dancing show -- the Coconut Dance). Then a tuk-tuk ride to see the interesting city market, followed by a great elephant ride back at the temple complex.

Vandong Thom is a young bhuddist Monk based in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. He is determined to raise the standard of living of the people of Cambodia, and is especially concerned with the life and future of the street children. This video shows three projects which we saw. The first is a village which has been relocated after a cruel and vicious ejection from their traditional fishing area of the Mekong by foreign property speculators. Vandong located the site, helped rebuild the village and provide help to create a new industry- mushroom growing to replace the fishing. The second shows how he converted a temple into an internet area to teach basic computer skills- perhaps this is where the new smiles cafe is now... The last shows the traditional dance and music group he has recreated to give street children a skill and a career at the same time preserving the traditional Cambodian dance. Vandong always needs donations. Have a look at http://www.bsda-cambodia.org/
