This short video is a companion to Propriocep's on-site and online programs. Microbreak No. 1 introduces you to one of our key stretches, the McGill Overhead Reach. The McGill Overhead Reach is a simple stretch that helps alleviate the effects of prolonged sitting posture. This dynamic stretch opens up tightness in the shoulders and chest, and puts traction where it's needed - on the back. Deep abdominal breathing during this stretch is recommended. Take 20-second microbreaks like this one every 20 minutes. When you're thinking of the next e-mail you need to send, take microbreak while you're thinking. Your back will thank you. Keep learning at propriocep.com and schedule an on-site ergonomics workshop for your team.

The Standing Posture Reset and Door Stretch counteract shortened chest and shoulder muscles that keep us slumped over while sitting. These two stretches are simple, safe, and easy to remember. Standing Posture Reset // Stand with your feet slightly farther apart than your hips. // Turn your feet out slightly and tuck your chin in. // Breathe in (through your nose) to your abdomen. // Exhale slowly while turning your palms out and raising your breastbone towards your chin. For the door stretch, use the same starting posture. Raise your arm and brace it against a door frame. Turn your torso slightly away from your engaged arm. Your muscles should feel engaged in the stretch without reaching the limits of your range of motion. When you return to a normal standing or seated posture, notice the feeling of openness in your chest. Success! Next, we give more tips on beating back pain using a LaCrosse ball and a clean sock.
