Hands stained and filthy from digging deep for the answer That lies at the heart of the matter of splatter... Eschatological - The grave matters with which we struggle Pathological - The perverse perpetuation of this purulent puzzle Repugnant - The wretched riddle unravels in a reeking revelation Repulsive - The final fetid farce yields such a rancid realization Now your morbid curiosity may finally be answered Deep in the heart of the matter of splatter... A morbid matter on which to meditate or mutilate A deathly detail to deliberate and desiccate A sombre study in which sagacity is tantamount to insanity An insalubrious interest in the inhumed and the unsanitary... An unhealthy pursuit of the purulent and parturient A feculent fixation upon the fetid filth and excrement An exhaustive examination of the excreted and the exhumed A tireless appetite to hill the silt atop the tomb... Nebulous - The sanguineous solution is seldom seen before the last Amorphous - Seemingly always six deep feet beyond your grasp Funereal - Carnal cartography to chart the course of life's denouement Corporeal - The wretched revelation that you sought proves harder to swallow than you'd thought... That anatomy is destiny is the unforgiving answer Culled from the heart of the matter of splatter...

Exhumed is not The Voice. It’s not X Factor or Idol – it’s not about creating a new pop sensation. Hosted by James Valentine, Exhumed is a national band competition for enthusiastic amateur bands that are unsigned, unrecorded, unrecognised and until now, unwanted. Exhumed is about recognising that there’s a lot of great passionate, inspired music making going on that deserves celebrations. Production year 2013

"Surf culture sticks to you like Velcro". That is what bass guitarist Jimmy Cowabunga says as an explanation of why Surge Whitewater and the Filthy Left only play surf (bombora style) music. We met Jimmy and his fellow band members during the EXHUMED competition. They rehearse and play around Port Campbell, the cold and blustery big wave town on Victoria's wild western coast, but the band members hail from all across western Vic. EXHUMED went to air last night on ABC 1 and took us on a journey of discovery around Australia, to meet some inspired, talented, wacky, exuberant musicians who do it for the love of it. If you caught it, you would not have seen these boys so I thought I would introduce you myself. They may not have been nationally televised last night but they sure have won the hearts of locals and are a lot of fun to see live. They played an excellent set at our Warrnambool EXHUMED live event. They share a simple dream, to travel up the east coast of Australia and play to some of their northern brethren, who revel like them in surfie lifestyle, music and culture. Their dream is really about their love of the surf music genre, and wanting to play to a crowd who love it and appreciate it as much as them. So if anyone up that east coast way sees this and likes this little taster, drop me a line and lets get these boys in the green room, of a different kind! ABC's "Exhumed" is a band competition with a difference. It’s not for has-beens, it’s not for wannabes, it’s for the never-weres: the people who play music for the sheer love of it. The NSW North Coast had an awesome response with one of the highest numbers of entries in regional Australia. The local winners are "Victims of Geography". You can listen to the competition they are up against at abc.net.au/tv/exhumed/bands/. Of these 44 bands, only 6 will be selected by James Valentine and Exhumed HQ to perform at the Grand Final on December 12 in Sydney. Vote for your favourite band to win the People’s Choice award and stay tuned for Exhumed on ABC TV in November! More about Verandah Band ... The Verandah Band describe themselves as "a loose collection of aging tradies, professionals, farmers and retirees with a hankering for songs from the 60s and 70s". The band started one Friday night 15 years ago on the verandah of the historic Jiggi Hall at a time when local musicians could "practice their chops while sharing a glass of wine". The band can sometimes be made up of as many as 15 members and as few as half a dozen. Currently there's between five and nine current regular participants, "depending on the weather". Their self-recorded albums, Jiggi Beach (2007) and Jiggi Christmas (2011), have raised more than $4000 for the local pre-school and primary school, providing a PA system for the Jiggi Hall. According to the band, they "fluctuate between episodes of diabolical discordance and moments of sublime brilliance". Sound recordist and mixer for the performance. Mic Deacon Stills: Stephen Axford Produced by Catherine Marciniak, ABC Open North Coast Producer (2010 - 2013)

Together for just 12 months, The Strands call themselves an originals band because one of the reasons they got together was to have some fun writing and performing their own material, that's not to say they won't play a few covers though. Inspiring each other, these self proclaimed "musical tarts" will play just about anywhere and for anyone, using their music as an escape from their stressful jobs. Sound recordist and mixer for the performance. Mic Deacon Produced by Catherine Marciniak, ABC Open North Coast Producer (2010 - 2013)

Chelle and Dave from My Figment are a contemporary folk-roots duo on and off the stage. They've been making "music, love and dreams" for over 10 years playing originals and adapted covers from "melodic to funky folk with flavours of blues, ragtime and Jazz". For Chelle, Exhumed is a chance to play out a childhood dream of making music...taking singing ABBA songs to a background cassette with a toilet roll for a microphone to a whole other level. Dave picked up a guitar at 10, pledged his dedication at 16 when he realised it attracted the girls and reached a peak of musical greatness in his early twenties when his dinner depended on it. By the time they met, Chelle was a high school teacher "with a book full of poetry and half crafted songs" and Dave was a youth worker doing the occasional Brisbane pub gig. Two kids later, they're still making music together. Sound recordist and mixer for the performance.
