Sense It is a personal sensor program through which, data and information about the invisible trends and patterns in the day-to-day use of the city can be collected. This can improve decision-making based on specific, proven, real-time needs. Sense It is part of the OurDublin system, the culmination of our academic year, an ambitious systems solution for the design and delivery of city services. Inspired by global initiatives that empower residents to become more engaged in civic life, we designed OurDublin as a people-powered process, addressing the needs of residents and government, together. Through an integrated system of three participatory programs (Sense it, See it, and Make it), we leveraged the power of technology to encourage, facilitate and increase public dialogue, deliberation, organization and action around a wide variety of city challenges. Beyond Dublin, we hope this proposal can serve as inspiration for cities around the world, showcasing the power and potential of collaborative city-building.

I am a pre-service teacher, and this video project was for my class in technology for educators. My assignment was to find a lesson and teach it using an Interactive White Board (IWB), and then reflect on the experience, hence the many subtitles commenting on what I am doing or not doing. I used a lesson from the Scholastic "Flashlight Readers" series practicing Parts of Speech with words from the book, Charlotte's Web by EB White. The Scholastic lesson plan features not only a lesson plan but an interactive word analysis game compatible with an IWB. The game I chose featured a series of tasks or games practicing analyzing and identifying parts of speech. There were several different games targeted different word analysis tasks, but giving a variety of challenges. Usually, the students would drag answers into the "web" are in the center for Charlotte's consideration. Any mis-placed words would blink when you try to submit the answers, so it's gently self-correcting. Link here: http://www.scholastic.com/charlottesweb/perfectword.htm As an opener to give the students something concrete to talk about and describe, I used a video of an orb spider spinning, permission pending from creator Andy Rae. APA Reference here: Andy Rae, YouTube user. (October 10, 2010). Video: Close-up of Spider spinning it’s web detail seen Clearly.wmv (sic) Retrieved from http://youtu.be/g5iN0ZaoW7M I wanted to create a voice-over rather than read some intro statements over the video, but I wan't able to wrangle the technology to do that. I changed the lesson plan somewhat to include an opener and to segue into the rest of the lesson, and also to include some writing (not shown here). The video cut off before concluding the lesson, so only a snippet of the longer game activity is shown. The lesson was designed for 3-5th graders, but I was using some of my fellow students as actors. --
