        • Jonbar Cabaret & Untune at St Crispin's

Jonbar Cabaret & Untune at St Crispin's took place in June 2014 as part of Jonbar Archaeology exhibition at NN Contemporary Art. Jonbar Cabaret, hosted at NN Café, featured a night of poetry, performance, music, readings and stories by Jo Blake Cave, Ben Moor, Ryan van Winkle and others, followed by through-the-night interventions and performances in the lead up to Untune at St Crispin’s. This year at summer solstice, NN invited people to join in an event called Untune at St Crispin’s to commemorate the story of Doris Towers. Her story is used as an anchor for something more: a celebration of all that does not fit easily into our lives. A hike led by artist Jantine Wijnja leaves NN in time to watch the sunrise. Film by Kevin Stoney Sole Studios.

          • Rise Above - Official Trailer (2015)

Rise Above is a must-see film that follows the lives of two childhood friends, Ian Brooks and Chloe Taylor, whom over the years develop a shared passion for running. This enthralling film which features character flashbacks and heartfelt emotion is filmed in charming and scenic Western Massachusetts and the surrounding New England area. When the two are confronted with unimaginable circumstances produced by a tragic accident, their friendship is tested—what was once a beautiful bond becomes a painful separation. Both Ian and Chloe will find themselves forced into a new and frightening reality that is, for each, dominated by feelings of frustration, hopelessness, and isolation. This compelling story speaks to our belief in hope, miracles, and the ability of true friendship to withstand all challenges. As the enthralling plot unfolds, the protagonists’ hardships are complemented by the story’s thematic symbolism around the running: how the pursuit of success on the track or trail requires the same struggle and sacrifice necessary for the pursuit of happiness and lasting friendship. The result is a powerful message about perseverance and resilience that raises the question: what things in life are you willing to fight for?

Anyone walking down Northampton's Guildhall Road this January may have noticed the bright and bold spinning street sign bearing a message 'CLIMATE CHANGE' or perhaps 'CHANGE CLIMATE'. The sign is one of a series of Early Warning Signs by Glasgow-based artist Ellie Harrison. NN Contemporary Art is one of four venues across the UK hosting the signs throughout 2015. The rotating sign can be seen outside the front windows of NN during opening hours as it responds to the shifting weather conditions. This on-going project was initiated at Two Degrees Festival in 2011 to 'promote' the issue of climate change and the consequences of excessive consumption. Mimicking signs you might find outside a garage or Bureau de Change, the bright and bold signs are trying to grab the attention of passers-by, but instead of trying to sell you something they are placed there as a playful yet stark reminder of the consequences of excessive consumption. For more information about the project please ask for a leaflet at the front desk or visit Ellie Harrison's website: www.ellieharrison.com/earlywarningsigns For further information about NN visit: www.nncontemporaryart.org
