February 2014 video by Paul Jeffrey Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, ravaged a wide swath of the Philippines in November 2013. ACT Alliance member agencies and their local partners responded heroically to the humanitarian crisis. Three months after the storm, ACT Alliance General Secretary John Nduna came to the affected areas to see for himself how the ACT Alliance was supporting the resilience of local communities, where people insist they are survivors, not victims.

In this video Shane Thompson (Architect) speaks about the context of Toondah Harbour's Development Project (for which the State Government have ultimate power of veto), after two days of intensive workshop among designer peers which were intended to offer practical suggestions to council, state, developers and community. Early 2014, a concerned community of architects, designers, landscapers, surveyors, planners and engineers gathered in response to a Redland City Development proposal for Toondah Harbour that was given PDA (Priority Development Area) Status by the State Government, who reserve final approval. A section of the community have many issues with the potential extent of the sweeping powers that could be used in this project. In a spirit of goodwill and open collaboration, a majority of Redland City Councillors voted to extend the community consultation phase for an extra month to garner community views or issues. At the same time several teams of SEQ's most passionate design advocates offered two days of professional consultation on a free (pro-bono) basis, to create a range of strategies to guide council toward an exemplary outcome for Toondah Harbour AND Cleveland CBD. Thank you to the many committed locals who volunteered their valuable skills and contributions in the best interest of Local Community Futures.
