Our Democratic Heritage will be providing a free heritage walk on Saturday, 24 November 2012. This walk will trace the historical path of Woman’s Suffrage through the streets of London, from Temple Station to the Victoria Tower Gardens behind Parliament. Since its inception, Our Democratic Heritage has provided a platform for student projects which focus on raising awareness of the historical development of British democracy. As an intern for Our Democratic Heritage, I researched and wrote this project focusing on woman’s suffrage as part of my Masters coursework in Public History at Royal Holloway, University of London. The walk is a result of extensive research using museum collections, archival documents, as well as a range of oral and photographic sources, to creatively retell the history of these incredibly significant events relating to the Women's Suffrage Movement. Please feel free to share this video with other organisations and people you think might be interested. This would not only help to raise awareness of an important historical event, but provide an educational day out for those wishing to explore London's famous Westminster area. This event is being held in partnership with Parliament Week, taking place between the 19 and 25 November 2012. Parliament Week is an annual initiative coordinated by the Houses of Parliament that looks at the people, places and events that shape democracy in the UK. The events will inspire people to get involved with politics, encourage them to make their voices heard on the issues that matter to them, look at how our democracy works today and discuss its future.
