"After a seven days' march through woodlands, the traveler directed toward Baucis cannot see the city and yet he has arrived. The slender stilts that rise from the ground at a great distance from one another and are lost above the clouds support the city. You climb them with ladders. On the ground the inhabitants rarely show themselves: having already everything they need up there, they prefer not to come down. Nothing of the city touches the earth except those long flamingo legs on which it rests and, when the days are sunny, a pierced, angular shadow that falls on the foliage. There are three hypotheses about inhabitants of Baucis: that they hate the earth; that they respect it so much they avoid all contact; that they love it as it was before they existed and with spyglasses and telescopes aimed downward they never tire of examining it, leaf by leaf, stone by stone, ant by ant, contemplating with fascination their own absence."- Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities (Cities&Eyes)

First prototype for a portable phosphene flicker device. Inspired by the Neuro Stimulator lamp, Lucia Nº03. The initial intention was to assemble a device which allowed one to play with the entropic imagery associated with stroboscopic stimulation, using natural sunlight, where ever the user is located. This is a project from Eclectic Electric, a Fach Module from the Media Art & Design MFA at the Bauhaus University, Wiemar Germany. The shutter glasses were donated by the Virtual Reality Department. Using an Arduino and a potentiometer to control the flicker rate of the glasses. Second prototype with have improved interface and artificial light and individually controlled frames. Wear on Face. Close eyes. Turn toward the Sun. Adjust the flicker rate. Experience the free play of mind. Installation and film created by myself and Nick Lukes. Challenging the way you perceive and interact within a space. We changed an industrial, untouched space underneath a bridge into a void, changing how you view and feel about the space you are in. Based upon my need for an introvert's space, using mirrors and lights to create an endless space where you're aware you're completely alone and feel free to act accordingly. We ask the public to abandon the conventional way of looking at spaces and structures around them.

An interest in shaping how the viewer sees and experiences familiar, everyday materials informs much of my practice. I intend on dedicating myself to discovering new and challenging relationships between ideas, materials and methods of representation, oscillating between micro and macro scales. I am frequently driven by the roles of experimentation, chance, uncertainty and even failure, each of which play a crucial part to my practice. I am also intrigued in the effects of how I display my work and how it may confuse the viewing subjects perception of the real and the imaginary. Allowing the processes to determine the outcome is an essential concern of mine. Approaching the process of experimentation with everyday textiles, I hope to move the familiar towards the unknown, asking the viewer to consider the materials as they might not otherwise do. Essentially, I want to challenge our preconceptions and acceptance of the mundane mechanics through physical and visual manipulation, re-contextualizing them as art........ Made using a sheet of lined A4 Paper, a wasted pen, one strong light source and a DSLR Camera with a macro lens - from studies of looking at how drawing can transform a material.
