Every year ST. GEMMA's HOSPICE hold a Rowing Regatta on Lake Windermere, UK. The participants Row the length of the Lake and Back. I followed four friends from my Village at their first attempt at both the Charity and 'Rowing'! I took my GH2, 14-140 lens, a 20 inch Glidetrack, a Tripod, my monopod and my old rugby sock bean-bag. The first minute is CINEMA 24p conformed to 25fps in Cinema tools. The remainder is 'BLOOMESQUE' slow motion in the 720 format.

The film was made for installation in the new Durham world heritage site visitors centre. The aim was to produce a short film to give visitors a basic introduction and stimulate interest in exploring the site further. Part of the concept for the project was to work with a group of Durham University students during the production. I was in Durham for seven days, during which we went through the whole process of producing the documentary. From the initial preproduction meeting where we discussed different approaches and ideas through to filming and the initial editing stages. Stylistically we wanted to avoid voice overs and try to tell the story of Durham through the voices of some of the people who live and work around the site. We also wanted to breathe life into the spaces by focusing on the variety of contemporary activities going on. The production team who as students, live and work on the site itself, were instrumental in tracking down interviewees, scouting locations and coordinating the production. We also ran over technical aspects of the filming, sound and light and much of the final film was shot by the students. Please explore www.durhamworldheritagesite.com to learn more.

A three minute short film which covers the ST. GEMMA's HOSPICE ROWING REGATTA on LAKE WINDERMERE UK. I followed the event , and indeed the same Crew, last year and there are inevitable similarities. This time I used an HD2 Go Pro and the Gh2. I clamped the Go PRO to the end of a 12 foot , 2 inch diameter, polypipe and used it like a fishing rod..with mixed results. The GO PRO does seem to be at its best in very bright conditions rather than operating in the gloom of the Northern Hemisphere. • Inside The Olympic Dream

            from cameron sylvester / Added

Very few people realize how much work is required to compete at the Olympic caliber. This short film takes a closer look at the philosophy of training to be the best in the world. Several athletes as well as the coach of the Canadian National Rowing Team were interviewed and asked a series of questions about their training program, the philosophy and psychology of training, and the dream of being the world's fastest. All footage was captured during training sessions, or team meetings over the last 5 weeks. There was no script for the interviews. It was all raw feedback; merely edited into a 'condensed' version. An attempt to give some of the flavours of the ocean and try to explain what motivates me to relish challenges such as rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. "Expeditions are about pitting yourself against nature. This project has frustrated me because much of the struggle has instead been within ourselves (nausea, hunger, exhaustion) and our immediate environment (seats designed during the Spanish Inquisition). Last night though I experienced the addictive sensation I have enjoyed so often on hills and mountains, deserts and rivers. That is the outpouring of “a kind of glory that lights up the mind of a man” and which comes with surviving and thriving in the world’s wild places and relishing the variety, the beauty and the ferocity of nature..." This film consists of footage from the summer rowing season. A sculler, and eight and a four. Also, clips from a balloon festival on the banks of the Hudson River.
