Bogota A great experience in spite of the heavy rain and the delayed cargo. Video production by WET-HEAD Fernanda Pineda and Hanz Rippe G Executive Producer Red Star Photography By Mario Andres Meija December 2014 the Close-Act company travelled Bogota for Latin American premiere of GLOBE. The company was divided in different shifts so when the first arrived at the hotel the next group left from Amsterdam and-so-forth. Eventually after a few days, all 32 members came together in Bogota and had to get used to the 2600 height. Bogota is located in the Andes and after Quito and La Paz it’s the highest capital in the world. Our first job constructing the sphere seemed not so easy. The cargo of Globe was divided in a see freight and a small airfreight. Guess: The airfreight was missing! This was a major problem. The airfreight was stuck in Lisbon (Portugal) because of a strike. We had two more days before the premiere and it was impossible to build the sphere. No way our travel ends up in a big disaster, we had to make up for a second plan. The scaffolding plan Our only option was: Build a ring of scaffolding, (diameter 16m - height 4m) and place the ¾ of the sphere on top. We already build the sphere so with a 70-ton crane we placed it slowly on the ring. It worked and ultimately this new construction was only 3 meter less high than the original full globe. We lost a full day in building the sphere and building the scaffolding and we needed the rehearsal time, with this new construction, more then ever. A race against time! We were right to make a second plan. Our freight had no priority (like food or medicines) and it took days before it flew over to Colombia. The next days we got used to the new construction. New rigging points were specified, new climbing routes were found It made our premiere a very special one. The nice fireworks after the show completed the feeling: Satisfaction Actually it worked above expectation and after this first performance the airfreight arrived. Up to a new building day: At 12.00 the globe was finished, the sun shined and the actors and riggers could finally rehearse in a full sphere. And ready for the second show. What a feeling, the prospect of the first quiet day with no changes and again a complete sphere. Rain, rain, rain. How different the next day could be. We played in pouring rain. This was a true misfortune but a victory as well. We expected rain would not really be an issue, but now with this heavily rain experience, we are sure. The time the show on live broadcast program and this rain in combination with the exposure must have been a beautiful sight. Fortunately, the audience appeared massively with their umbrellas on the playground. Probably former visitors talked around their experience of the primer shows. The next two days we only had dry performances with a bigger audience. Probably the television broadcast contributed to the number of audience? Actually, we started to get used to it and get into a rhythm. Too bad we could not play two or three weekends. It was a disastrous start with a satisfying end Would we do it again: …..YES It’s the 3rd time CLOSE ACT THEATRE brings a large spectacle to the city. In 2006 and 2010 for the FITB (Festival Iberamericano de Bogota) In 2014 for the event: "La Navidad Humana" a Christmas celebration event offered by the city of Bogota and organized by IDARTES December 2014 Bogota Colombia
