                05:49

from Teach For All / Added

How do you inspire deep self belief in students who have spent years believing that they have limited potential? How do you build the courage to dream in students deprived of opportunity? How do you develop the independence and leadership in students that’s necessary for them to take ownership of their dreams and make them a reality? These are the hard questions Claudia Araya (Enseña Chile ‘12) was confronted with when she first met her students in Limache, Chile. Claudia started to think about how she could create a space in her classroom for her students to build confidence and develop independence in order to successfully pursue an unlimited vision for their own lives. - See more at: http://teachforall.org/network-learning/courage-through-autonomy-autonom%C3%ADa-para-la-valent%C3%ADa#sthash.68kLScHm.dpuf

                    • Growth, not perfection

                      02:42

from Teach For All / Added

Is seeking perfection in our students, our schools and ourselves a healthy model for growth? Isaac Pollack, Principal of New Orleans’ Carver High School doesn’t think so. He leads his school on the simple belief that "it’s ok to make mistakes, just be better tomorrow than you were today." This belief underpins a culture of constant growth in which Isaac’s role is to maximize the growth of his teachers, his teacher’s mission is to maximize the growth of the students, and the students are responsible for maximizing their own education. This “upside down pyramid” of responsibility provides a framework through which the entire school can engage in constant growth and be better tomorrow than they were today. - See more at: http://www.teachforall.org/network-learning/growth-not-perfection-0#sthash.MTdQhTnY.dpuf
