It's been over a decade since our last pond skim at The Summit at Snoqualmie, what better way to bring it back than at closing day at Summit West and our 75th Anniversary Celebration. The modest size pond was quite the hit, skiers and boarders of all ages signed up to give it a shot. The crowd pleasing was plentiful, with spectacular flips and tricks by those who easily made it across and huge splashes from those who didn't make it yet went down in waves of glory! Plus the occasional highly skilled pond skimmer that would get in some great slashing and splashing of the crowd. Eventually the crowd even began to flow in and out, closing in behind each rider as they passed by in order to grab the best view, almost reminiscent of the crowds during the old Group B Olympus rally days. It was a rad sight!

Mother Nature has been teasing us for over a month, giving snow, and then taking away. Temperatures fluctuate, snow levels rise and fall, but this is the Cascades, we deal with these temperamental cycles every year. We know full well that the often dreary fall foretells the one thing we long for; Winter. The winter payout is nearly here, and it's easily worth dealing with the moody fall. Filmed fall of 2012, and Winter of 2011/2012

We had a terrific 2012-13 school year at The Summit. Please enjoy highlights of the year in pictures. College is a key outcome for our students. Again this year, our seniors accomplished a lot during their years here, and the best colleges in the country recognized that. • Our 97 graduates earned over $15 million in scholarships; 83% received merit scholarship awards; 21% received full-tuition scholarships. • A single student was offered nearly $1 million in scholarships from various colleges and universities; six additional students were each offered over $500,000. • 13 universities offered their highest level scholarship to our students. • 19% were recognized by National Merit. 92% of the class took college-level classes through the College Board Advanced Placement Program. • 14% will compete in collegiate athletics, compared to 6% nationally. 7% will play on Division I teams. • Seniors performed nearly 10,000 hours of community service, averaging 103 hours per student. Check out some of their acceptances: American University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Boston College, Brown, University of California at Berkeley; Carnegie Mellon; University of Chicago, UC’s DAAP program, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Davidson, Duke, Emory, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Kenyon, Michigan, NYU, Northwestern, Notre Dame, University of Pennsylvania, Pepperdine, Purdue, Rhode Island School of Design, Rice, Savannah College of Art and Design, Art Institute of Chicago, Smith, Stanford, U.S. Air Force Academy, West Point, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Washington and Lee, Washington University in St. Louis, Wellesley, and Yale. Other areas of note this year included: • The addition of eight international students to the Upper School. Word has spread about how great their experience has been; nine additional international students have signed up for next year. The families who hosted these students enjoyed the experience. If you would like to host a student next year, call Admission for details. • We completed the reaccreditation process and received a highly complimentary review from the visiting team. • The Latin Club won its fifth consecutive state championship. • Six sixth graders won awards at the annual ABC Architecture Competition. • Two eighth graders qualified for the State Power of the Pen Competition. • Summit students raised $15,819 for the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Clean Water Fund. • The Boys Cross Country team qualified for the State meet and came in fifth. • Girls Soccer again went to State and competed in the semi-finals. • Boys Soccer won State. • Football made it to the second round of the tournament; that’s the farthest in school history. • Two divers qualified for State and came in 7th and 8th. • Boys Basketball went 24-2 and competed in the regional semi-finals. • Girls Basketball went 20-4 and won their league for the second year in a row. • Baseball and Boys Lacrosse went deep into their respective tournaments. • Eleven track athletes qualified for State. • We completed funding for the Farrell Ackley and Rob Hertzel endowed scholarships. • Three Lower School students’ art pieces were accepted into the 42nd International Children’s Art Exhibition held in Japan. Tens of thousands of entries were received from around the world in this competition, and only 164 American students got work into the show. We submitted four pieces and three not only were accepted but went on to win awards.

Lauren and Alex's wedding weekend was perfect from start to finish. A rehearsal dinner over the city, a sweet iPad note to Lauren from her husband-to-be, a reception at the always gorgeous Philbrook Museum of art, and that dress!!! The girls were a blast, the guys hilarious, and a party that seemed like it would never end. (And when you're jammin' to the tunes of Hook, who can blame you for wanting to dance the night away?) There was so much fun, love, and emotion all weekend long, and we hope you can feel it too.
