The CUFFED? team spent an afternoon in Union Square, asking people to reflect on addiction. These are their stories. In order to continue breaking the stigma of addiction, we ask you to support our film and DONATE to our Kickstarter here: bit.ly/cuffedkickstarter // About this Video :: These conversations started with: "Do you have a personal connection to addiction?" And we followed up with: "How did that person's addiction affect you personally?". These questions sparked something within these individuals, and what we're sharing are these people's life experiences. Their willingness to share hopefully inspires all of us to be more open and honest, and to start a larger conversation about what addiction truly is. // About Us :: Little Birdie Films was created by the passion to break boundaries, scream out unspoken truths, explore stigmas, and wash them away. We tell stories that connect with and celebrate what is real in life. By examining darkness, we expose glimmers of light and document the unmentioned moments that live in shadows. Through our film/TV productions, Little Birdie Films pulls the blindfolds off and sparks a dialogue of truth. Connecticut lawyer Brian Moran, the author of “The Justice Imperative: How Hyper-Incarceration Has Hijacked The American Dream," says that America's huge prison population--the largest in the world--is too expensive, is failing to rehabilitate prisoners, and is not producing any worthwhile results for the lifelong stigma it inflicts on convicts. His book discusses the problems and suggests solutions, among them following a prison reform program like the one instituted in Texas.

The "War on Drugs" has clogged our courts with too many cases (84% to 92% of ALL crime is drug related, depending which study one reads). The "war" is the problem, not the drugs; alcohol did not create Al Capone, prohibition created Al Capone (See too LEAP- Law Enforcement Against Prohibition!). It takes years for a case to come to trial; justice delayed is justice denied.

As the War on Drugs escalated (in the early 1980s) the rates at which serious crimes were solved declined dramatically. Solved murders are down from 95% to 47%! Similarly with rape cases! We are wasting police resources in a futile "War on Drugs", when we should be legalizing, regulating and taxing drugs and having the police prevent and solve rapes, robberies, and murders.

As a former prosecutor and defense trial lawyer, I remember when the criminal justice system worked well: JUSTICE almost always was the result. No more. Since the advent of the "War on Drugs" much harm has been done, including crazy criminal sentences discussed in this video.
