Venice is a beachfront neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles, California. It is known for its canals, beaches and circus-like Ocean Front Walk, a two-and-a-half mile pedestrian-only promenade that features performers, fortune-tellers, artists, and vendors. Its colorful Boardwalk is a great scene: free, fun, and funky. Venice of America was founded by tobacco millionaire Abbot Kinney in 1905 as a beach resort. The basketball courts in Venice are renowned across the country for their high level of streetball; numerous NBA players developed their games or are recruited on these courts.Venice has always been known as a hangout for the creative and the artistic. In the 1950s and 1960s, Venice became a center for the Beat generation. Jim Morrison of The Doors also lived in Venice and wrote much of his poetry and song lyrics here. music: Michael Mayer: Good Times

Peppertint is an eyewear brand based in Los Angeles, California, created by three friends, all with their cultural roots originating from the streets of downtown Los Angeles. Founded in 2012, Peppertint aims to bring urban West Coast fashion to the mass market through affordable, handcrafted eyewear. A high-grade eyewear using Mazzhuchelli acetate imported from Italy, Carl Zeiss lens, with unrivaled price points and a rigorous in-house production cycle to ensure peak quality, Peppertint puts California culture directly in your line of sight. Every Peppertint model is named after a street in Los Angeles – Figueroa, Fairfax, Garfield, La Cienega. Each comes with its own distinctive flair and its own experiences drawn from the founders’ collective California memory. Accented with a bold red stripe at the tip of every pair, and dashes of red and white dots representing the flag of the California Republic, Peppertint juxtaposes West Coast vitality with Far East tranquility. Peppertint is California; memory and fantasy, with creative, exquisite craftsmanship. The brand’s name came from the word “peppermint”, a cross between watermint and spearmint which can grow anywhere in the world. With a similar mission, Peppertint strives to bring and spread the authentic flavor and style of the Californian culture to the rest of the world.

We arrived at the shop early in the morning as the first light entered the room. Dust particles danced through sunbeams as we began to move items around the space, debating wardrobe and the shot sequence. Nick entered and listened to what we had planned. He nodded his head, pulled a piece of beaver felt down from a shelf, set it on the table and began to work. Worries of the wardrobe, makeup, and set dressing fell away. It didn't matter who he was, what he was wearing, or whose hat he was making - in front of the camera camera was a man and his craft, the beauty of his work uncluttered. Watching Nick work froze our day in time and if it weren’t for the light blinking on the camera we would have had no reference to the year. In a society that often forgets the importance of making something by hand, Nick Fouquet’s artistry is a reminder of what is at the core of this country. We left inspired and grateful to be able to capture a timeless discipline passed down through generations.
