Video montage I put together of our family reunion over the summer of 2014. It was a blast and good filming exercise for me. The quality may be a bit grainy due to not having access to quality equipment.

In traditional Enga culture, it is believed that sickness is often caused by the spirit of a person's dead relatives. In this video, Maniosa Yakasa, one of the Enga Bible translators, tells the story of how his grandfather used to communicate with the spirits in order to find out who was affecting a certain person who was ill and how they could satisfy the spirit to leave the sick person alone. The term 'poo pingi' refers to the practice of blowing through rolled up leaves in order to communicate with spirits. Despite these traditional beliefs, Maniosa firmly believes in the power of Jesus Christ as supreme over the power of any spirits.

To be a salt-maker, you have to step back into humility and realize what is really making the salt: Mother Nature. The producers of this salt, Nancy Bruns and Lewis Payne, are living this humility out well, simply being vessels of the creation process, supporting the earth and creating spaces for Mother Nature to do its work. Read more about the salt making process here: http://www.jqdsalt.com/our-process/ J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works would like to invite you to partake in what they call, "Mother Nature's Product." "The Good Stewards" fits the founders of J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works well. They rarely use these words to describe themselves though. But their goal in every aspect of their work is to be just that - good stewards of their land, their lives and their salt. It is evident in every detail of their company. They produce an all-natural salt gleaned from an ancient ocean trapped deep below the Appalachian mountains. They call their salt "Mother Nature's product" because they only use the brine, the sun and gentle mountain breezes to produce their all-natural salt. The brine is free of contaminants and heavy metals that may be found in other oceans, and produces a salt that is mineral rich and full of flavor. Stonestreet Creative had the honor of working with J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works, a company who draws brine (ocean water) from an ancient ocean trapped deep below the Appalachian mountains to make their salt. Using only the brine, the sun and the gentle mountain breezes, two 7th generation siblings, Nancy Bruns and Lewis Payne, are continuing their family's 200 year old tradition of hand-harvesting this all-natural salt, in celebration of their American heritage.
