According to room's light conditions rectangle moves left or right. If the room is bright rectangle moves to the right if the room is dark rectangle moves to the left. Built with Arduino and Flash. Controlled with Nokia N900 according to data coming from light sensor. Analog data is sent to N900 via BlueSMiRF Gold Bluetooth module.

Yet another experiment with the laser beams coupled to a MIDI synthesizer (a microkorg). It is not reliable (notes are triggered once out of several hits) because of an input sampling much too slow, and this creates interesting effects, better than pure random (since it is a regular rhythm that is mangled by the input sampling rate against the rhythm tempo rate).

PixSol is similar to a conventional monitor in the way it discretises a continuous image in separate components that vary in brightness. In PixSol however, images are rendered in cocktail umbrellas, those tiny paper contrivances that come with your tropical drink. This prototype uses a 3x3 grid of white pixSols on a black background. By opening an umbrella, thus increasing its diameter, the brightness at the pixel's location increases. The result is a low res greyscale monitor, but we're planning to scale up to a higher resolution RGB version. Some further hardware sketches for my animism project for New Ecology of Things. E.G.O.: A processing sketch using the SimpleOpenNI library (http://code.google.com/p/simple-openni/) reads skeleton-tracking information from the kinect which is mounted on top of the robot chassis. The processing sketch sends serial commands based on the user's position to the updated Arduino sketch which controls the motors and robot's movement. [Code: https://github.com/johndryan/Animism/commit/8ee3d6a875dbd333024a369924667ef2742cf228] I.D.: A second small robot, the I.D., runs on two continuos servo motors. In this iteration, it just runs a simple preprogrammed set of movements. Read more on my blog: http://blog.johndryan.me/post/19904319187/in-a-near-future-the-fractured-nature-of

During the initial weeks, its a real problem at Hyper Island to to know about each member of the crew- both for the students and the staff. Using Arduino, we developed an automatic sensor which delivers short audio introductions for each member each time its triggered by stepping on the specific spot. The idea was hugely appreciated and was able to solve a real problem at Hyper Island. Module: Digital Transformation.
