Rachel Armstrong - Life: The Ultimate Technology Virtual Futures University of Warwick, 18-19 June 2011 http://VirtualFutures.co.uk Rachel Armstrong is Senior Lecturer, Research & Enterprise and Co-Director of AVATAR (Advanced Virtual and Technological Architectural Research) in Architecture & Synthetic Biology at The The University of Greenwich. She is a Senior TED Fellow, and Visiting Research Assistant at the Center for Fundamental Living Technology, Department of Physics and Chemistry, University of Southern Denmark. Her research investigates a new approach to building materials called ‘living architecture,’ that suggests it is possible for our buildings to share some of the properties of living systems. ABSTRACT Life: The Ultimate Technology The concept of ‘living technology’ calls attention to the fact that modern science is increasingly capable of engineering systems whose power is based on the core features of life (ISSP, online). My research investigates the development of ‘living materials’, a particular example of living technology, which exploits the energetics inherent in terrestrial matter to create design solutions for the built environment that are ‘programmable’ using chemistry and physics. Many of these properties are regarded as characteristic of ‘life’ but do not infer ‘aliveness’ on the system. The particular system that I am investigating is a dynamic oil in water droplet system, which is capable of emergent behaviour and demonstrates some complex properties that can be thought of as architectural: shedding skins, motility, modification of the environment, population scale behaviour and the production of complex structures. Speculative proposals for applications of these ‘living materials’ in the built environment are explored, particularly with respect to environmental interventions such as, the development of carbon fixing surfaces, reclaiming the city of Venice by growing an artificial limestone reef underneath it, oil producing solar panels and water producing claddings.

MARTIN ARMSTONG - THE STORY The year is 2012: Europe is stumbling from one emergency summit to the next, America has gone crashing through the 15-billion-dollar debt ceiling and people are taking to the streets across the world because they have realised that something is wrong. But after eleven years off the radar, a man resurfaces in Philadelphia who used the number pi in the nineties to predict economic turning points with precision. Already in the 70s he discovered that the global economy appeared to be based on the 8.6-year cycle. He multiplied the cycle by six which gave him 51.6 years and it all fitted perfectly: Black Friday in 1869, the commodity panic in 1920, and the Second and Third Punic Wars. 8.6 years equalled three thousand one hundred and forty-one days: 3,141, the magic number pi times a thousand. With his secret knowledge Martin Armstrong predicted the exact date of the October crash in 1987, the decline of the dollar in 1986 and the Nikkei crash in 1989. He was named economist of the decade. In Japan he became so popular because of his predictions that they just called him Mr. YEN. But in 1999 he was arrested on charges of fraud which he still disputes to this day. Martin Armstrong refused to play along with the bankers’ game. He made powerful enemies: New York investment bankers, hedge funds managers, Salomon Brothers and the Goldman Sachs in this world. The FBI and the US Securities and the Exchange Commission wanted him to deliver his secret model. They accused him of manipulating the world economy. He was incarcerated for seven years for contempt of court. Now Martin Armstrong is back – released from prison after 12 years. He agreed to be the focal point of this movie - a piece on the Financial Crisis we are facing – the Sovereign Debt Crisis. And he seams to offer a solution which will be revealed throughout the film – a solution how to avoid the Armageddon of Western Society. Visually “Martin Armstrong - The Oracle” will have all the qualities of a feature film.

With one company, we decided to make a pre-project to check my skills. My task was to find suitable footages for the mentioned topic, over internet. I only got voiceover's sound file. I listened to it many times and I looked for a suitable music too. That was what I could do. I should not share this video online because voiceover's file has it patents. However, I could not get a deserved attention from the company so I am using this video as a referance so that maybe it can help me to find future jobs.

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
