Once ,not so long ago their existed a flourishing land with dense green forests and thriving wildlife. Then in nights of destruction it was overwhelmed by deep dense ice. Today no one dreams Antarctica was once a tropical paradise. Scientific research and new interpretations of ancient mythology reveal just this scenario. I was driven to follow this story when I first read about the 3000 year old maps copied by the Turkish admiral Piri Reis. Our story starts from this quirky find.

Post Nature, 2014 Two-Channel Video, HD. 15minutes Post Nature is collected images of semi-real and semi-fictional digital photographs, predominately taken during specific space-weather events such as solar flares. This natural phenomenon of light is an altered state of Space is a hidden catalyst in this Art practice. By recording objects with different light sources in these conditions; clouds, weather and atmospheric changes, artistically translate scientific methods, processes, and images into spaces that can be emotionally and physically experienced as utopias revealing which was previously hidden. The collected Rubbishlegium is a combination of internal and external discarded human historical detritus [the 19th century coal extraction machinery left to decay in the iconic landscape of Central Otago, and the 21st century household rubbish is sorted and reassembled.] The two video productions explore the duality of Nature’s ability to disguise failure by concealing it with beauty. By manipulating scientific phenomena KOP begins to ask the questions: Is this rubbish signaling the end of nature, as we know it? What are the implications of forgotten Utopian aspirations and fast changing technologies? Disbelieving apocalyptic visions seek to engage a dialogue between the rubbish The camera as a device records the unseen transformation of literal rubbish from the physical into ethereal code, which talks to a utopian discourse. The Video combines Light Emitting Diodes and recorded panic breath from the Christchurch 2011 earthquake into a computer. The captured digital image reads as if one has witnessed a nuclear sunset. By observing the umwelt of rubbish a soundless Utopian vision is revealed.
