Just outside of Yosemite in Bass Lake, CA, lies High Sierra, a study abroad campus for Azusa Pacific University students that emphasizes communal living, a focus on the liberal arts, outdoor experience, and spiritual development. Each semester, around 40 students come up to Bass Lake to discover the opportunities that High Sierra has to offer them. As part of the curriculum for an advanced film production course at APU, as well as for promotional purposes for the High Sierra semester, this documentary was produced to explore some of the major tenants of the High Sierra program and the stories of the students and staff who have been impacted by their experiences in Bass Lake. Each year, about 200 Azusa Pacific student Resident Advisors, like Todd Williams ‘13, participate in Walkabout, a 10-day leadership training trek in the High Sierras. This adventure challenges students physically, as well as spiritually and emotionally as they bond in close community, and learn to fully lean on one another and God. For Todd, who was born with spastic cerebral palsy, Walkabout served as a reminder that life is about trusting God. “No matter how hard I think I have to work at something and use my own strength— it’s not enough. That’s something that God’s teaching me. I don’t have to depend on myself. I have to depend on Him.” Connect with Azusa Pacific: twitter.com/azusapacific facebook.com/azusapacific http://www.apu.edu/

In summer 2012, Azusa Pacific University, in a joint project with Hebrew University of Jerusalem, began a 10-year survey and excavation project on Abel Beth Maacah (1 Kings 15: 20 and 2 Kings 15: 29), one of ancient Israel's northern guardian cities. Azusa Pacific Associate Professor of Biblical Studies Robert Mullins, Ph.D., will co-lead the project with Nava Panitz-Cohen and Ruhama Bonfil (Hebrew University) in an attempt to uncover the history behind this site.
