1. Kootenay National Park Tree Skiing

Just a regular day out backcountry skiing in Kootenay National Park, Canada. A nearby slope avalanched the next day on the same aspect, same time of day, same mountain. It was a size 2 and involved one skier. He was carried for 100m through dense trees (similar to the video) but was not seriously injured. The only difference was we stayed on the low angle terrain and he skied the roller into the gully. We made a conscious decision to not ski the gully earlier in the day. We also dug a snow pit and performed a compression test but the funny thing was we got no failures on the 30 cm layer that failed. Sometimes it's good to be lucky.

First day on Tallac for me this season. Also the first time for Oscar down the Babycham, and Mike down the Corkscrew. Lots of second tracks for me. Great conditions and another beautiful California day.

Still a bit tired from our first backcountry skiing day, we tried again... this time on a northerly slope and with a less strenuous climb.

A brief chronicle of my first legitimate backcountry skiing experience after an ankle injury and almost yearlong recovery. Shot on a November afternoon/evening on Tumalo Mountain in Oregon.

On a recent company adventure, the VentureWeb team was pleasantly surprised by an April snowfall at Backcountry Snowcats, located on the Hurley Pass just up the hill from Pemberton, BC. Powder skiing in April!? Awesome.
