Anselme grew up in the village of Andavadoaka, southwest Madagascar, and completed his schooling with support from Blue Ventures. He is one of Blue Ventures' first scholars to attend university! Anselme was in the AloAlo environmental club while at school in Andavadoaka, and has been very interested in environmental protection from a young age. Now he is studying Geography at the University of Toliara with support from Blue Ventures, and hopes to be able to use the knowledge and skills that he is gaining in order to help his community with environmental protection in the future. The Safidy programme offers women and couples in Velondriake, southwest Madagascar, access to reproductive health services so that they are able to freely choose the number and spacing of their births. Safidy, which means “choice” or “freedom to choose” in Malagasy Vezo, takes a rights-based approach to family planning. In this video, Caroline and Fanja explain about a Safidy reproductive rights training session that they are carrying out with all of the programme's community-based distributors. Community-based distributors are local women who are trained and supported by Blue Ventures to provide basic information and services relating to family planning, maternal and child health, and hygiene and sanitation within their villages. They offer various products including different contraceptives for those who wish to use them. The Safidy programme is part of Blue Ventures’ integrated population, health and environment approach that is empowering coastal communities in Velondriake, southwest Madagascar, to live healthily and sustainably with their marine environment. We believe that improving access to education is essential to preserving Madagascar’s ecosystem, improving quality of life, and sustainably managing its natural resources. Thanks to your donations, Blue Ventures sent over 175 students to school in 2011-12. Without your support, these students could not have afforded their education. From as little as £3/month, help us reach our goal of sending deserving Malagasy students to school for the year.
