Cold and windy weather continues. Visiting Reposaari village with it's slowly fading fishing harbor. This time there was more life than normally; at least 7 boats manned, all trawling herring. Outside on the ice natives are fishing with jig, in any weather and seemingly regardless of the amount of catch;) An exciting Holotna excursion by Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland.

Little Marjakari reef is one of the outest and most isolated in Luvia archipelago by the Bothnian coast. For tens of years, there has been the biggest cormorant (Phalacrocorax Carbo) colony of Finland (1900 nests). The birds have been very harassed as people think they will destroy the vegetation of the reefs and eat all the fish from the sea. As they were disturbed in the beginning of the nesting season this spring, the colony moved to nearby reefs. Even for me, it was a surprise to see how fast the vegetation has renewed. A Holotna excursion to Luvia, Marjakari - 28/7/2012 - by Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland. (Done with Canon 5Dmk3 and Marantz PMD661 with BP 4025 stereomic)

One of the few days with lighter wind made a day trip to Rayhat Reef possible. Coming on shore was not easy even on the lee side because of the swell and stony shore. But all in all a nice and warm day at sea. A Holotna excursion by Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland. (Part of www.rupuranta.net videoblog) Shot with Canon 5D mark2 and 50/1,4 lens.
